Ahmedabad: Sleeping Woman Molested by UberEats Food Delivery Guy; caught on CCTV

Bhavin Shah on Wednesday arrested for molesting a woman after entering a flat that provides paying guest service for women, police said.

The suspect caught on video touching a woman inappropriately, women was sleeping on a sofa in the drawing room, he said, adding that another woman caught Bhavin Shah sneaking out of the flat and raise an alarm but he manage to escape.

“The incident occurred on June 14 midnight when the man, later identified as Bhavin Shah, entered the flat in Kamal Nayan Apartment in Navrangpura locality after finding its door unlocked,” Navrangpura police station officer.

Accused was identify as Bhavin Shah, a resident of Naroda and native of Dehgam. He has been a food delivery worker for about a year. His mother has been working as a domestic help in Naroda area since his father’s death. After completing Class XII, Shah started doing odd jobs, said a police official, adding that he is unmarried.

“An FIR has been registered under Sections 354 [assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty] an 452 [house trespass] of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons,” DCP, Zone I, PL Mal said.

PL Mal said the police started investigating the case on the basis of grabs from CCTV cameras.

“If we find any offence is made against owners of the PG hostel, then we will take action against them as well,” said.

The victim works as a cleaner at the flat.

Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja said the woman was initially not ready to lodge a complaint.

“This is a despicable incident. We are extremely worried over it. The management of the hostel should take care that such incidents do not happen again,” she said.

Around 19 women stay in the apartment as paying guests.
