2.85 Lakh people are displaced cause of the floods in western Maharashtra

TOTAL 1,34,119 and 1,11,365 people have been evacuated to temporary camps in Sangli and Kolhapur districts in Maharashtra.

The death toll has reached 29 today in five districts of Maharashtra. Huge rains at Kolhapur and Sangli. Major Rivers like Krishna and Panchganga are in spate.

Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said ” Flood waters had begun to reduce in Kolhapur and Sangli. In Kolhapur, the water level has decreased by two feet and in Sangli, it has decreased by 3 inches;

Two helicopters started dropping relief material in flood-hit regions today, still, connectivity is a major concern. We’re hopeful that by tomorrow evening there will be connectivity in the region depends on the rainfall.

A total of 28 villages in Sangli & 18 villages in Kolhapur are completely surrounded by water and the only mode of reaching to them is by boats.

We have recieved RS 76 crore from the government. In cities, Rs 15,000 and in rural areas Rs 10,000 will be given per family.”

A total of 34 rescue teams are working in Kolhapur and 36 in Sangli. These teams includes NDRF, NAVY, Coast Guard and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
