After the death of Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, his father Gangaiah Hegde passed away on Sunday. ;Gangaiah Hegde, 95, was in a coma for a prolonged period of time and was unaware of his son’s death.
Gangaiah Hegde was a wealthy coffee planter and a highly revered person in Chikmagalur district. Owners of coffee estate down the generations, Siddhartha’s family has been in the coffee growing business for 130 years.
Gangaiah’s last rites will be performed in their native village on Monday.
VG Siddhartha founded the Cafe Coffee Day in 1993; first outlet in July 1996 in Brigade Road, Bengaluru. As of 2018, the company had 1,722 café outlets in over 200 cities of India and is especially popular among the youth.
