Kannada actor Chirranjeevi Sarja passed away on Sunday in Bengaluru following a heart attack. He was 39.
According to reports, three days ago, Chirranjeevi was taken to a private hospital after he suffered multiple strokes. He returned home after treatment. The actor complained of breathlessness and chest pain on Sunday afternoon. However, he suffered a heart attack on the way to the hospital.
Dr Yatheesh Govindaiah, Unit, Apollo Hospitals, Jayanagar, said in a statement, “The patient, Chiranjeevi Vijaykumar, was bought to Apollo Hospitals, Jayanagar in an unresponsive state at around 2:20 pm today (07 June 2020). The patient was immediately shifted to the emergency room, TRIAGE area for treatment. On examination, he was found unresponsive with absent carotid pulse, cold peripheries and bilateral dilated pupils.
Hence Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was started according to the latest Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocol. Resuscitation was continued till 3.48 pm. During this time, intravenous medications, inotropes and advanced airway was used, pulse was achieved three times (ROSC), later continued to be asystolic. He was declared dead at 3.48 pm. Our condolences and thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
His throat swab sample was also taken for COVID-19 test, TV 9 Kannada reported.
His body will be taken to his residence in Basavangudi. From there, his mortal remains will be transported to his native Madhugiri in Tumkur, where he will be buried tomorrow.
Chirranjeevi Sarja is the brother of actor Dhruva Sarja and nephew of actor Arjun Sarja. Chirranjeevi was launched by Arjun who bankrolled the former’s debut movie Vayuputra, the remake of Tamil film Sandakozhi, in 2009. And in a career spanning about ten years, he acted in more than 20 movies.
Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble also shared his condolences on Twitter.
